Spring Cleaning and Maintenance Checklist

Spring is just around the corner and it’s time to inspect your home for winter damage and start your annual maintenance. Regular maintenance keeps resale value high as well as making for a pleasant environment for you to live in. Take some time to enjoy your home and take care of it, and it will take care of you. 1. Install new batteries in smoke alarms & carbon monoxide detectors
2. Replace furnace filter
3. Inspect bathroom & kitchen caulking—caulk as needed
4. Test kitchen & bathroom exhaust fans
5. Clean kitchen exhaust hood & filter
6. Schedule air conditioning inspection
7. Check fire extinguishers
8. Clean gutters, check for leaks & make sure they’re attached securely
9. Clean & seal deck—if needed
10. Check exterior paint for damage and touch up where necessary.
11. Look in your attic and crawl space for any moisture intrusion or evidence of pests.
12. Check your hot water heater for leaks
13. If you are on a septic system schedule any maintenance needed.
14. Clean debris off roof and gutters – make sure it is dry enough to do this and take proper safety precautions if you are climbing ladders or going on your roof/ call a professionally insured company to do this
15. Check for broken sprinkler heads and replace them before switching on your irrigation system.
16. Reconnect your garden hoses and check them for leaks.
17. Arrange to have your Dryer duct cleaned to stop lint buildup that can be a fire hazard.
18. Cleaning your furnace heating ducts gives you a cleaner air environment.
19. Arrange to have your chimneys swept if you have used your wood/pellet burning fireplaces over the winter.
